Q

What are antigens and antibodies?

A
  • Antigens: A person’s blood type is based upon the presence or absence of two proteins a (a and b) on the surface of the red blood cells. these proteins are called antigens.
  • in other words, antigens are a substance that triggers an immune response in the body, causing it to produce antibodies
  • Antibodies: proteins that detect foreign substances in the body and attack them.
  • ex: Person has A blood type. Is administered type B blood. Antibodies will attack.

Q

What is the law of dominance?

A
  • when two different alleles occur together and one prevents the other from having an effect (seen in the phenotype)

Q

What is the law of segregation?

A
  • During meiosis, the two alleles for each trait separate so that each gamete receives only one allele from each pair
  • Rr -> R and r

MEANING THAT EACH GAMETE ONLY RECEIBES ONE ALLELE

Q

What are the different types of genotypes for each blood type?

A
  • Type A (AA or AO) or I^A
  • Type B (BB or BO) or I^B
  • Type AB (AB) or I^A & I^B
