Q

what is the peripheral nervous system?

A

a system in the body which sends information to the central nervous system from the outside world and transmits messages from the cns to the muscles and glands in the body.

Q

what is the somatic nervous system

A

a subdivision of the peripheral nervous system which transmits info from the receptor cells in the sense organs to the central nervous system and receives info from the ins which direct muscles to act voluntarily

Q

what is the endocrine system

A

one of the bodies major information systems that instructs glands to release hormones directly into the bloodstream. theses hormones are carried towards target organs in the body

Q

what are hormones?

A

chemical substances that circulate in the bloodstream and only effect target organs. they are produced in large quantities but disappear quickly and the effects are very powerful.

Q

what is the fight or flight response?

Q

what is adrenaline?

A

a hormone produced by the adrenal glands which is part of the human body’s immediate stress response system. Adrenaline has a strong effect on the cells of the cardiovascular system ; stimulating the heart rate, dilating air passages etc.

Q

what is the endocrine gland called

A

pituitary gland

17
Q

how do the endocrine system and the autonomic nervous system work together?

A

when something is stressful, the parasympathetic state changes to the physiologically aroused state (sympathetic) the pituitary gland then releases adrenocorticotrophic hormone which affects cells of the adrenal gland to release adrenaline into the bloodstream which triggers the fight or flight response.
