Biology plan organ systems Flashcards
What does the shoot system consist of?
Stem leaves tubers sometimes flowers sometimes fruit
What are the two main organ systems of a plant?
The shoot system
the root system
How many main organs does a plant have?
it is considered to have 2 main organ systems
What are the functions of the root system?
Anchorage Absorption storage water and nutrient transport hormone production
What does the phloem tissue move through the plant?
Moves sugar produced by photosynthesis to other parts of the plant
What is an organ system?
When a group of tissues and organs preform a specific function
What does xylem tissues move through the plant?
Water and minerals from the roots to other partss of the plants
What connects the shoot and root system?
Are connected by the flow of water, nutrients and various hormones through vascular bundles that contain xylem and phloem
How do plants produce glucose?
From photosynthesis
Explain in detail how water gets into the plant by the roots?
Roots bring in water into the plant through root hairs, which bring water and nutrients into the plant through osmosis
What functions does phloem require energy for
Requires energy to activley pump substances where they are needed
Is it xylem or phloem that is dead?
Xylem
What happens glucose once its formed?
Its either used or combined with other molecules to form sucrose
What are the functions of the shoot system?
Photosynthesis hormone production storage water and nutrients transport reproduction
What does the root system consist of?
one or more separate roots
