Biology Interphase And Metaphase Flashcards
What is cytokinesis?
The act of the cell physically splitting in two
What happens during telophase?
The spindle fibres start to disapear. Then the nuclear membrane and the nucleons reappears at each part of the cell. The chromosomes begin to uncool and become threadlike again
What happens during anaphase?
The proteins holding the chromatids together at the centromere break apart
The separated chromatids now called daughter chromosomes are pulled apart by spindle fibres.
The spindle fibres now pull the separated daughter chromosomes to opposite sides of the cell.
What happens during metaphase?
The centrioles reach opposite ends of the cell.
Each centromere becomes attached to two spindle fibres one from each centriole.
The chromosomes are moved by the spindle fibres so that they line up at the middle of the cell
What is the longest phase of mitosis?
Metaphase!
What happens in late prophase?
The nuclear structures and nuclear membrane disintegrate
The miotic spindle fibres attach to the chromosomes or their centromeres
What happens during early prophase?
The chromatin (DNA and Protein) that makeup the chromosomes condensed
Two organelles called centrioles migrate to opposite ends of the cell
Tread like tubules called miotic spindle fibres extend from the centrioles
What phase is prophase in mitosis? (Example first second third fourth)
It’s the first phase of mitosis
What are the four phases in mitosis?
Prophase
Metaphase
Anaphase
Telophase
What happens in animal cells during cytokinesis?
The cel membrane pinches froward eventually splitting the one cell into two cels
What is the purpose of mitosis?
Is to provide new cells in multicellular organisms or for reproduction in single cells organisms
What is cell division?
Is the process by which a single cell divides into two identical daughter cells
What happens in plant cells during cytokinesis?
The cel plate forms the cell wall and the inner cell membrane in each of the new cells
What is cytokinesis?
The process that a cell uses to split the cytoplasm in two forming two daughter cells
What is mitosis?
The process that a cell uses to split the nucleus in two, making sure that each daughter cell gets a complete copy of DNA
