Biological practical Flashcards
What is the research question?
Do males have better spacial ability than females?
What was the aim of our experiment?
To investigate if males have better speacial ability than females
What was our one tailed hypothesis?
Males will get significantly more spacial ability questions correct out of 20 in 5 minutes than females.
What is a one tailed hypothesis?
One that provides direction
What was out null hypothesis?
There will be no significant difference between the number of correct spacial ability questions correctly answered out of 20 in 5 minutes between males and females
What was out Independant variable?
The sex/gender of the particpiant
What was out dependant variable?
Th score out of 20 of the correct spatial ability questions gained in 5 minutes
what was our sample?
20 6th form college students aged 16-18 , 10male 10female
What sampling technique did we use and who was chosen?
oppertunity consisting of students using the library when the experiment was carried out on a wendnesday afternoon
Why did we use oppertunity sampling?
quicker way of choosing a sample then for instance random sampling which could have taken days to complete
How many spacial ability questions were used?
20
What ethical guidlines did we consider?
- informing participants what the experiment was about
- Informing the participants they could withdraw if they felt uncomfortable
- we debriefed participants showing them it was not a measure of intelligence
- we also promised confidentiality to the participants
What method/test did we use to analyse the data?
Mann-Whitney test
Why did we use a Mann-whitney test?
- because the experiment was an independant measures design
- Because the experiment was investigating a test of difference
- We were gathering ordinal data
