bioenergetics - exercise Flashcards
why do humans need energy
for movement, to keep warm and for chemical reactions to build larger molecules
where do we get our energy from
respiration - aerobic and anaerobic
during exercise why does the body need more energy
for muscle contraction
why does aerobic respiration increase during exercise
because we need more energy and our body cells and working muscles need more oxygen
how does our body get more oxygen into it when doing exercise
by increasing our breathing rate and volume
heart rate also increases to help pump more blood around the body
when does anaerobic respiration tae place in the muscles
when there isn’t enough oxygen being supplied to them
what effect does lactic acid have on your muscles
it makes them fatigued and stop them contracting efficiently
what key word is this
“the amount of extra oxygen needed by the body to remove the lactic acid”
oxygen debt
how is the lactic acid removed by the body and where does it go
via the blood
it gets taken into the liver and gets converted back into glucose through a series chemical reactions
