What is Cardiac arrest
Heart suddenly stops pumping
Blood stops flowing to vital organs
What is cardiac arrest caused by
Caused by different types of arythmias
That prevents the heart from pumping blood
What does cardiac arrest lead to
Leads to a lack of blood flow to the brain
Causes a person to lose consciousness
Or
Being disabled
Or
Can die if not treated immediately
Alert the emergency service

Symptoms of cardiac arrest
No pulse
Agonal / no breathing
Grey and cold
Unresponsive
What does CPR stand for?
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
steps to high quality chest compressions (3)
- Place the heal of your hand on the sternum and interlock your fingers
- Position yourself so your shoulders are directly above your hands
3.use your body weight and press down 5-6cm on their chest - Keeping your hands on the chest release the compressions and allow the chest to return to its original position
How long do you do the compressions before help arrives
100-120 x
Recovery position
1.place nearest arm at a right angle
2. Put other hand under cheek
3.bend their knee
4.open airway
