Attachment: Learning theory AO3 Flashcards
1
Q
What are 3 limitations of the social learning theory?
A
3 limitations:
- Counter evidence (animals) regarding feeding
- Counter evidence (humans) regarding feeding
- Ignores other factors associated with forming attachment
2
Q
COUNTER EVIDENCE (ANIMALS)
What did Lorenz say about attachment?
A
- Goose imprinted before being fed and formed an attachment with Lorenz even if he doesnt feed the goose
- SO, we can way that attachment does not develop as a result of feeding
3
Q
COUNTER EVIDENCE (HUMANS)
What did Schaffer & Emmerson say about feeding?
A
Feeding is not important for babies to attach as babies still developed a primary attachment to their biological mother even though caregiver did most of the feeding.
4
Q
What does the social learning theory ignore? what is the effect of this?
A
- Ignores interactions and quality of attachment formed by synchrony and reciprocity
- SO, in cupboard love, there are no complex interactions and therefore there would be no relationship between them and low quality levels of infant-caregiver attachment
5
Q
Who is the main researcher for ATTACHMENT social learning theory?
A
Dollard & Miller
