Q

How many order neurones DCML?

A

3
First order
Carry sensory info from peripheral nerves to medulla

Signals upper limbs (T6+)- travel in fasciculus cuneatus
- synapse in nucleus cuneatus
Signals from lower limbs- travel in fasciculus gracilis
- synapse in nucleus gracilis

Second order
From cuneate of gracilis nuclei fibres carry info to 3rd order neurons
Decussate in medulla- travel contralateral thalamus

Third order neurons
Transmit sensory info to thalamus and ipsilateral primary sensory cortex
