Arms and forearms Flashcards
Triceps Brachii
proximal attachment
infraglenoid tubercle
posterior surface of humeral shaft
poster surface of humerus
Triceps Brachii distal attachment
olceranon process of ulna via common tendon
Triceps brachii innervation
radial nerve (C6,C7,C8)
Triceps brachii action
chief extensor of forearm
Anconeous proximal attachment
lateral epicondyle of humerus
Anconeous distal attachment
lateral surface of olcranon
superior part of posterior surface of ulna
Anconeous innervation
radial nerve (C7-T1)
Anconeous action
assists triceps in extending forearm
stabilizes elbow joint
Ulnar Collateral Ligament
-connects humerus to ulna on medial side
Radial Collateral Ligament
-connects humerus to annular ligament on lateral side where capitulum of humerus articulates with radiud
Annular Ligament
attached at both ends to ulna and straps radius against ulna
- radius pivots around ulna
- ulna remains stable and cannot rotate on humerus
Function of ulnar collateral ligament
resist any movement going laterally
Function of Radial Collateral Ligament
resist medial movement of the arm
Supinator origin
Lateral epicondyle of humerus, RCL and annular ligaments and supinator fossa and crest of ulna
Supinator attachment
lateral, posterior and anterior surface of proximal 1/3 of radius
Supinator action
supinates forearm (rotates radius to turn palm anteriorly)
Supinator innervation
deep branch of radial nerve (C5 and C6)
Pronator teres origin
medial epicondyle of humerus and coronoid process of ulna
Pronator teres attachment
middle of lateral suface of radius
Pronator teres action
pronates and flexes forearm
Pronator teres innervation
median nerve (C6, C7)
Pronator quadratus origin
distal 1/4 of anterior surface of una
Pronator quadratus attachment
distal 1/4 of anterior surface of radius
Pronator quadratus action
pronates forearm
Pronator quadratus innervation
anterior interosseous nerve from median nerve (C8 and T1)
Flexor carpi radialis origin
medial epicondyle of humerus
Flexor carpi radialis attachment
base of 2nd metacarpal
Flexor carpi radialis action
flexes and radial (at wrist)
Flexor carpi radialis innervation
median nerve (C6, C7)
Palmaris Longus origin
medial epicondyle of humerus
Palmaris Longus attachment
Distal half of flexor retinaculum and palmar aponeurosis
Palmaris Longus action
flexes hand (at wrist) and tightens palmar aponeurosis
Palmaris Longus innervation
median nerve (C7,C8)
Flexor carpi ulnaris origin
Humeral head; medial epicondyle of humerus
Flexor carpi ulnaris attachment
pisiform bone, hook of hamate and 5th metacarpal bone
Flexor carpi ulnaris action
flexes and ulnar flexion (at wrist)
