Q

What are the three muscles in the anterior compartment of the arm and what innervates them?

Q

What does the anconeus muscle do?

A

It helps the triceps extend the forearm and also abducts the ulna during pronation of the forearm.

Q

What is Popeye Deformity?

A

When the long head of the biceps tears from its attachment to the supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula and forms a ball near the center of the distal part of the anterior arm.

Q

What is the Bicipital Myotatic Reflex?

A

A routine muscle spindle test where the arm is supinated and the bicipital tendon is firmly held down and then struck to observe a response. A positive response indicates an intact musculocutaneous nerve whereas a prolonged response indicates central or peripheral NS disease.

Q

What is the clinical sign of radial nerve injury?

A

Wrist drop. The extensors of the wrist cannot overcome gravity and the tonus of the flexors.

Q

What is Ischemic Compartment Syndrome (Volkmann ischemic contracture)?

A

When a laceration occurs on the brachial artery, scar tissue can form and cause the involved muscles to shorted permanently, producing a flexion deformity.
