Anterior Thigh Muscles part 2 Flashcards
Vastus Lateralis
Origin: Greater trochanter and lateral lip of linea aspera
Insertion: Via common tendon (quadriceps tendon) and independent attachments to base of patella; indirectly via patellar ligament to tibial tuberosity; lateral vasti also attach to tibia and patella via aponeurosis (lateral patellar retinacula)
Innervation: Femoral nerve (L2, L3, L4), Kick the door
Rectus Femoris
Origin: Anterior inferior iliac spine and ilium superior to acetabulum
Insertion: Via common tendon (quadriceps tendon) and independent attachments to base of patella; indirectly via patellar ligament to tibial tuberosity
Innervation: Femoral nerve (L2, L3, L4), kick the door
Vastus Medialis
Origin: Intertrochanteric line and medial lip of linea aspera of femur
Insertion: Via common tendon (quadriceps tendon) and independent attachments to base of patella; indirectly via patellar ligament to tibial tuberosity; medial vasti also attach to tibia and patella via aponeurosis (medial patellar retinacula)
Insertion: Femoral nerve (L2, L3, L4) kick the door
Vastus Intermedius
Origin: Anterior and lateral surfaces of shaft of femur
Insertion: Via common tendon (quadriceps tendon) and independent attachments to base of patella; indirectly via patellar ligament to tibial tuberosity
Innervation: Femoral nerve (L2, L3, L4), kick the door
