Overview of ARDS

A

–> Caused when there is swelling in the lungs and causes liquid to fill up in alveoli sacs in the lungs.

–> The fluid that fills in the sacs causes a lot of difficulty with breathing and getting air into the lungs.

A

Factors like pneumonia, sepsis and trauma are common triggers for ARDS.

A
  1. Injury Phase
  2. Increased Permeability, Fluid accumulation and Surfactant breakdown
  3. Impaired gas exchange, Ventilation-perfusion mismatch(hypoxemia) and Shunting
  4. Fibrosis and Repair Phase, Fibrotic changes and
    Recovery potential.

depends on underlying cause, severity, general health, type and timing of medical care received

  2. Laboured and Rapid Breathing (Tachypnea)
  3. Dry Cough
