Heel bone
Coracoid process
Process from the scapula
What is an epiphysis?
The center of growth at the end of a long bone
Where is the glenoid fossa found? What is it?
In the scapula.
The socket via which the humerus is attached to the scapula.
Name the 7 tarsal bones of the foot
Talus, navicular, lateral cuneiform, intermediate cuneiform, medial cuneiform, cuboid, calcaneous
Where are the medial and lateral malleoli?
The ankle bones (bony prominences of the tibia and fibula)
Where’s the manubrium?
The upper part of the sternum
Where is the xiphisternum?
At the caudal end of the sternal body
What is the name of the joint between the manubrium and the sternal body and at what vertebral level can the joint be found?
The manubriosternal joint can be found at T4, which is ask where the trachea bifurcates
What is a pneumatic bone?
A bone which contains many hollow cells of air
What are the 3 main types of bone?
Long bones
Short bones
Irregular bones
What is a sesamoid bone?
A bone embedded in tendon
What is the clavicle also known as?
The collarbone
What is the scapula also known as?
The shoulder blade
What is the humerus?
The bone of the upper arm
What is the ulna?
The medial bone in the forearm
What is the radius?
The lateral bone in the forearm
What is the femur?
The thigh bone
What is the tibia?
The medial bone in the lower leg
What is the fibula?
The lateral bone in the lower leg

The kneecap
Name the 8 carpal bones
Scaphoid, lunate, triquetrum, pisiform, trapezium, trapezoid, capitate, hamate.
How many phalanges are there in the thumb and what are they called?
2 phalanges- the proximal phalanx and the distal phalanx.
How many phalanges are there in the fingers and what are they called?
3 phalanges- proximal, intermediate and distal phalanges.
Where is the pubic symphysis?
At the anterior face of the pelvic girdle, where the 2 pelvic bones meet
Where are the styloid processes and what bones are they a part of?
Bony prominences either side of the wrist, from the radius (lateral) and ulna (medial).
What is the greater trochanter?
The larger tubercle of the femur, which is an important muscle attachment site
How does the femur attach to the pelvis?
The head of the femur associated with the acetabulum, the socket where the ileum, ischium and pubis all meet
