AP03 - joint tissue Flashcards
Name the 3 main classifications of joints
fibrous
cartilaginous
synovial
Name 3 types of fibrous joints
sutures
syndesmoses
gomphosis
What are the true names for the types of cartilaginous joints?
1 - synchondroses
2 - symphyses
With regards to joints, what are labra?
articular lips
Define fulcrum
the point about which the lever rotates (normally the joint)
Define load arm
part of the lever between the fulcrum and the load (this is either body weight or external resistance)
Define force arm
part of the lever between the fulcrum and the force applied
Define first class lever, and give an example
fulcrum between the load and force arm
extensor muscles of the head and neck acting o n the atlanto-occipital joint
Define second class lever, and give an example
load between the force and fulcrum (like a wheelbarrow)
someone in anatomical position and raising s they’re standing on their toes
What is the most common type of lever in the body?
3rd class
What type of joint exists between the bones of an infant?
frontanelle, between calvaria of an infant to allow for stretching
Give 2 examples of a secondary cartilaginous joint
manubriosternal joint, pubic symphysis
Name 7 joint SHAPE types
hinge plane pivot (trochoid) saddle ball and socket (spheroidal) condyloid ellipsoid
What is the function of the annulus fibrosis?
limits rotation of vertebrae
pain reception
Define hilton’s law
the nerve supplying the muscles extending directly across the acting at a given joint not only supplies the muscle but innervates the joint and the skin overlying the tissue
