antibiotics Flashcards
Are chemical substances which are capable to inhibit the growth of or destroy bacteria and other microorganisms.
ANTIBIOTICS
Are chemical substances produced by one kind of microorganisms that inhibits the growth of or kills another microorganisms.
ANTIBIOTICS
Are substances that inhibit or kill the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, protozoa, rickettsia)
ANTIBACTERIAL/ANTIMICROBIAL
Not all Antibacterial are Antibiotics.
These are not antibiotic because these are not obtained from biological substances.
SULFONAMIDES
General Uses
Direct treatment of infectious disease.
As preservative in food industries.
Added as dentrifices in order to reduce or prevent tooth decay.
As growth stimulants especially proven in pigs, chickens, turkeys and other lower animals.
