anomic aphasia Flashcards
anomia is a common _____ associated with aphasias
symptoms
damage to left inferior frontal region
deficits in naming action words (run, walk, sit)
damage to left temporal region
deficits in recalling or naming nouns
word retrieval problems may occur due to
- loss of word knowledge or impaired access to word knowledge
- difficulty mapping knowledge into phonological forms that represent the corresponding words
goal for treatment of anomic aphasia
work on improving word retrieval skills
tasks for assessment of anomic aphasia may include
-object and picture naming
-word associations
-antonyms/synonyms
basic considerations of treatment
retrieve and produce content words
circumlocution
talking around the word
in a majority of cases, word retrieval improves with progress in general language helping to improve
MLU and paraphasic errors
naming-error response types and analysis
- clients may have similar kind of errors or multipl kinds of errors
- important to note frequency and types of naming errors
2 stage model of word retrieval
stage 1 - semantic description of the concept
stage 2 - phonological information converts the lemma into the specific word
deblocking approaches
a blocked channel is accessed through an alternative intact channel (if a person cannot name but can read or write the name, you practice the target by reading, writing, and drawing it out)
nonconfrontational approaches
response elaboration training; these approaches are focused more on clients’ strengths
response elaboration training
presentation of a target item without any specific instructions or specific lexical items in mind.
phonologic component analysis
goal is to improve word finding/naming skills, helps strengthen activation of lexical networks
