[Anime] Shield Hero Flashcards
any; anything; whatever; whatever one likes; everything; all
“Same” - One of the heroes when asked if in their worlds the shield hero was also kinda useless
おなじ [同じ] and think he might have added a “だ” at the end. It can also mean similar/equivalent/similar/etc
“This way!” - That one girl who betrayed the shield hero in the first episode :c when he asked her where they could get weapons/armor
“Welcome” - The guy from the armor store
いらっしゃい, though apparently in shops it’s more common for them to use いらっしゃいませ
who; what kind of person [are you] - Raphtalia when she asks the shield hero who he is
“Of course”. The word means natural; reasonable; obvious. Apparently it’s a way of expressing something is obvious, and is similar to もちろん. More on that and other words for this here: https://tinyurl.com/y3sw9dsv
“No worries” [心配 meaning worry/concern of course]]
“Well done” - Shield Hero to Raphtalia. Think it was after she killed the two headed dog. The literal translation seems to be “well/nicely” + “hurray” + na, though apparently やった can also mean “was” so maybe that’s what’s going on :o
nicely; properly; well; skillfully
It’s lovely; wonderful; nice; great; fantastic; superb; cool - Raphtalia to Shield Hero when she sees him with the custom made “barbarian” armor. NOTE: Hearing natives say it, it sounds like “steki” [without the ‘u’]
(medieval) knight
However vs But [The first one is a conjunction to join 2 sentences and must go at the beginning, the second one goes in the middle of a sentence after a coma]
For “however” you have でも,しかし [VERY formal], ただし [also formal, usually to add a condition, restriction, exception, etc.]. For “but”, you have けど and が [again, the latter is quite formal; could be ok for writing]
“Japanese is difficult, but it’s very interesting” - Just an example of how to use “but” >w
[or だが…]
“But…” - Raphtalia when Shield Hero tells her to stop arguing with the soldiers that just attacked the town with them inside. It’s translated to “but”, but note that it’s not a single word. It’s です followed by が, which from what I’ve read, seems to either add some hesitation or give the sentence a “…so?” kinda feel [which might be negative or positive depending on your tone; e.g. if your boss asks you if you have time tomorrow vs if your friend asks]. The use of です and the hesitation from が make it polite
parallel universe (e.g. in SF); different-dimension world; alternative world
Shield Hero said it at some point but it’s also the anime’s genre
“You there!” - Spear hero when he sees Raphtalia walking through the King’s party
“Let’s eat (together)” - Raphtalia to Shield Hero in King’s party when she comes back with some cake
“It’s really good!” - Raphtalia to Shield Hero when she’s about to feed him some cake. すごく seems to mean awfully; very; immensely. Raphtalia uses it quite a bit, but Jisho didn’t mark it as common
Slave
“It’s my victory” - Spear hero after “winning” the duel
“Could you do that?”. “I-I could” - Spear hero when Raphtalia asks him if he’d rescue a slave like the Shield Hero did
“あなたに それが できますか”. “できる” [出来る]. In a later episode, the negative form できない [I can’t] is used
to believe; to believe in; to place trust in; to confide in; to have faith in
“I believe in you” - Raphtalia to Shield Hero after she’s freed from being her slave
“Be quiet!” - Shield Hero to Raphtalia when he’s upset about the unfair duel and thinks she’ll betray him
[imperative of だまる == 黙る, which means to be silent or say nothing]
“Certainly” - Ren at various points lol
たしかに [確かに - 確か alone is an adjective that means certain/sure/etc.]
new
“I refuse” - Shield Hero when the villagers ask him to race vs the Spear Hero
“Get well soon!” - Raphtalia to Spear Hero when he’s leaving still hurt from Filo’s kick >w
“Meanie!” - Filo’s first word when he says something about her feathers being stiff or something
“I’m hungry!” - Filo after transforming into a human
“If that’s the case…” - Some guy before getting on Filo after the Shield Hero told him he could pay him with stuff or afterwards
God
Witch
まじょ [魔女] - suena tipo “mayo”, supongo que viene de “mage”
ears - Shield Hero told the others to cover their ears before a loud scream from Filo
“(are you) alright?” - Shield Hero to Raphtalia after they fought Nue
“Beautiful!” [/pretty/lovely] - Filo and Raphtalia when they see the gems in a cave
to be rescued // to be helped
It was used in past form as 助かりました by a villager who thanked Shield Hero
