Animal Testing Flashcards

1
Q

For: many medical treatments a and procedures have been developed from experiments on animals, a total ban on the use of animals will prevent a great deal of basic medical research and the possible production of certain vaccines.
For life-saving research
To treat human disease
Legislation in most countries set standards for animal testing and laboratories have guidelines to prevent cruelty.

A

Against: Animal rights campaigners argue that animals have the right to live their own lives peacefully.
Many experiments cause discomfort, suffering, harm pain and death.
The results are not applicable to humans. The profound differences in anatomy, physiology between humans and animals make animals poor models for humans and so is cruel, inhumane, unethical.
there are other alternatives to using animals in medical experiments. Computer simulation can be used to observe the results of drugs on the animals.
