Angina Flashcards
What is angina pectoris?
Chest pain due to lack of blood flow, hence low O2
What are the 2 types of angina?
- Exertional Angina
2. Vasospastic Angina
What is exertional angina?
Chest pain, lack of O2, when heart is forced to work harder
What is vasospastic angina?
Chest pain, lack of O2, at rest or work do to coronary arteries spasms
What are the 3 categories of drugs used to treat angina?
- Nitrates
- Beta Blockers
- Ca Channel Blockers
How do nitrates work?
Direct vasodilation, reduce PR and BP
What are the 2 nitrate drugs?
- Nitroglycerin
2. Isosorbide
How do Beta Blockers work?
Block adrenergic beta receptors and block stimulation of sympathetic nervous system
What is the 1 Beta Blocker used for angina?
Propanolol
How do Ca Channel Blockers work?
Block the influx of Ca to cause contraction
What is the 1 Ca channel blocker used for angina?
Verapamil
