Anatomy Overview 1 Prof S Parson Flashcards
Define the Peritoneum
Serous membrane that consists of two continuous layers
What is the Parietal Peritoneum
Layer that lines the internal surface of the abdominopelvic wall
What is the Visceral Peritoneum
Layer that lines the organs such as spleen and stomach
What are Intraperitoneal Organs
Organs that are almost complete covered with visceral peritoneum and invaginated into a closed sac
What are Extraperitoneal, Retroperitoneal and Subperitoneal Organs
Organs that are outside the peritoneal cavity- external or posterior to the parietal peritoneum and are only partially covered with peritoneum
Define the Peritoneal Cavity
Within the abdominal cavity and continues into the pelvic cavity between peritoneal and visceral layers of peritoneum
What does the peritoneal cavity contain a thin layer of
Peritoneal fluid
What structures pass through the mesentery and where to
Neurovascular bundle and nerve supply to the intraperitoneal organs
The Cavity is entirely lined with what anterior-lateral and posterior
Muscle
Define Omenta
Double folds of peritoneum passing from the stomach and duodenum to other organs the body wall
What do arterial branches do
Travel between double folds of peritoneum
such as mesenteries and omenta and gain access to peritonised organs
What are arterial (or venous or lymphatic or nerve) branches
Branches that supply an organ within a mesentery and travels between the folds
What is the Greater momentum made out of
Peritoneum filled with fat and blood vessels
What organ has the biggest mesentery
Small intestines
What is the cavity behind the stomach called
Lesser sac (omental bursa)
