Pacifist included Grover Cleveland, Andrew Carnegie & Samual Gompers

-Spanish American war (1898) Cuban nationalists revolted against Spanish rule and gained support from Americans , then they grew stronger from Spanish fierce response
-Theodore Roosevelt led volunteer force in siege of Havana
-Cuba became US control till it became a protectorate (1902)
-Philippine and Porto rico became American colonies
(Americans using it as naval sea power to destroy outdated Spanish fleet to establish milatery control)
(1901) platt amendment claimed to protect Cuba from foreign intervention. [ which was included in 1903 Cuban treaty]

-Panama’s canal development
• Linked Atlantic with Pacific Ocean
• initially was difficult to do but Roosevelt sponsored Panamanian separatists which forced Columbians to accept independent republic of Panama
Leading to build panamal Canal Zone under American regulations
(16 US war ships sent on world tour to show value of panamal canal)
