Agility,balance,coordination Etc Flashcards
What is agility?
Ability to move quickly and precisely or change direction without losing balance or time
What is the vertical jump test?
1) perform short warm up.
2) stand with your dominant side against the board feet together and reach up as high as possible to record your standing reach height.
3) make the jump and touch the vertical jump board at the peak of your jump.
4) perform 3 times with no rest.
Advantages of agility test?
-Easy to setup.
-easy to conduct.
-no specialist equipment.
-not sport specific.
-performed anywhere.
Disadvantages of agility test?
Requires a partner to time.
Advantages of vertical jump test?
-minimal equipment required.
-can be completed in any condition.
Disadvantages of vertical jump test?
-need another person to help measure/ with the test.
What is power?
Power is the product of strength and speed expressed as the work done in a unit of time.
-force (KG) x distance (M)/time (Min or Secs).
- is important in explosive events like throwing and sprinting.
What is plyometric training?
Is a quick, powerful move that starts with an eccentric (muscle lengthening) action and is immediately followed by a concentric (muscles shortening) action.
What can plyometric train?
-power.
-strength.
Sports- track athletes, netball, basket hall, volleyball.
Exercises- standing jumps, bouncing, shipping, hopping and medicine ball exercises.
What are the advantages plyometric training?
-Sports specific.
-little cost involved.
-no specialist equipment.
-allows replication of movement.
What are the disadvantages of plyometric training?
-needs to be experienced to perform safely.
-has to be performed at very high intensity (can result in muscle damage (injury).
What is balance?
-The ability of the performer to retain their centre of gravity/mass over their base of support.
2 types
-static- little or no movement is produced e.g handstand
-dynamic- movement is produced during balance e.g keeping balance in a board I.e skateboarding.
What is coordination?
The ability to use two or more parts of your body smoothly and accurately at the same time.
What is reaction time?
The time take for a sports performer to respond to a stimulus.e.g how quickly a table tennis player reacts to a serve.
