A type of territory governed by a foreign power.

A type of territory that governs itself but under outside control

A type of territory in which outside power controls investments and trading

A type of territory in which a private business asserts control
What is Social Darwinism?
Strong conquered weak (national prestige; racism)
What are some elements of industrialization?
Needed raw materials, markets, tarrifs, etc.
What were some elements of the civilizing mission?
Hospitals, schools, churches, laws, languages, etc.
What happened to Dr. Livingstone?
He went out to explore Africa and was “lost”. When he was found, he was in he Congo. This sprked the interest of many countries.
