Action Preperation Part 2 Flashcards
2 personal characteristics affecting RT
Alertness
-immediate task, vigilance task
Direction of focus/attention
- sensory set, movement set
What does Motor control system do when we get ready to perform action
Action intention -> action preparation/organization -> action initiation -> action termination
Five practical aspects of action prep
Postural prep
Limb performance characteristics
Object control characteristics
Sequence of movements
Rhythmicity prep
AKA for postural preparation
Anticipatory postural adjustments
How does postural prep occur
Prior to excecution of an intended action, additional muscles activate
Occurs unconsciously
Even simple actions require complex synergistic system of muscles to work together
What is the relationship which has a basic in preperation of postural prep movements
Movement time and movement accuracy demands (Fitts law)
Examples of postural prep
Sit to stand
Pelvis control in deadlift (lat dorsi vs abdominals)
Preperation of limb movement characteristics
Selecting and organizing the movement characteristics of the limb according to the task constraints and characteristics
features of limb movement
- Direction
- TRAJECTORY (path limb follows)
- End point accuracy
- Hand/finger movements
End point accuracy
Constraining the limb movement to meet accuracy constraints of the task
E.g. speed vs accuracy
Prep of movements for object control when action involves manipulating an object
- Force control
- End state comfort control
Force control
Pre setting the amount of force required to lift or move the object
End state comfort control
We grasp objects based on what we plan to do with them
Dominant over non-dominant hand
Why do we grasp objects based on what we plan to do with them
- makes action more comfortable
- precision greater, movement faster
Prep of sequences of movements
Short sequences of movements prepared in advance
Ie) playing piano, speaking, typing
Kinematic charateristics (in hands, lips, tongue) modified by elements that come before and/or after them
Ie) tongue twister
