A

L: Posterior Neck/Shoulder Intermediate
O: Transverse processes of C1-C4
- C4 => superior angle of scapula
- C3 => more medial on superior angle
- C2 => more medial on superior angle
- C1 => same as C2

I:
- Medial border (superior portion) of scapula
- Superior angle of scapula

A: Elevation of scapula

- Deep to trapezius muscle
- Has a twisting muscle belly

Trapezius

A

L: Posterior neck/back superficial
O:
- Superior nuchal line
- External occipital protuberance
- Ligament of nuchae
- Spinous processes of C7-T12

I: (same as deltoid)
- Lateral 1/3rd of clavicle (upper trap)
- Acromion (middle trap)
- Spine of scapula (lower trap)

A:
-Elevation
- ADduction (retraction) & depression of scapula
- Extension of head at neck

- Upper = oblique
- Middle= horizontal
- Lower = oblique

  • Does not have an attachment to the ribs

Latissimus Dorsi

A

L: Posterior back superficial
O:
- Spinous processes of T7-T12
- Thoracolumbar fascia
- Iliac crest
- Inferior 3 or 4 ribs

I: Floor of bicipital (intertubercular) groove of humerus
A:
- Extension of arm at shoulder
- Medial rotation of arm at shoulder
- ADduction of arm at shoulder

Convergent fibers

  • The only muscle that attaches the upper body to lower body
