9.6 Thigh Musculature Flashcards
What are the actions of anterior thigh muscles of the hip vs knee?
Hip: Flex
Knee: Extend
What is the primary role of the muscles of the medial thigh compartment?
Hip adduction
Recall the eight muscles within the anterior compartment of the thigh
- Quads (rectus femoris + 3x vastus)
- Sartorius
- Pectineus
- Ileus
- Psoas
Sartorius origin and insertion
Origin: ASIS
Insertion: Proximal medial tibia
Rectus femoris origin and insertion
Origin: AIIS
Insertion: Base of patella (and then tibial tuberosity)
Vastus lateralis origin and insertion
Origin: Greater trochanter and lateral lip of linea aspera
Insertion: Quadriceps tendon
Origin and insertion of vastus intermedius
Origin: anterior proximal femur
Insertion: quadriceps tendon
Origin and insertion of vastus medialis
Origin: intertrochanteric line and medial lip of linea aspera
Insertion: Quadriceps tendon
Pectineus origin and insertion
Origin: Anterior pubis (“pectineal line”
Insertion: Posteriomedial femur (also “pectineal line”)
Where do the “adductor ____” muscles originate?
Inferiolateral pubis (lateral to symphysis, inferior to superior ramus)
Along which lines do the “adductor ___” muscles insert? What is the exception with the adductor magnus?
- Insert along linea aspera
- Adductor magnus inserts onto adductor tubercle on medial distal femur (but also inserts all along the linea aspera, hence Magnus)
Gracilis origin and insertion
Origin: Anteriomedial pubic rami
Insertion: inferior to medial condyle of tibia (near where sartorius inserts)
Origin and insertion of biceps femoris (both heads). Link this to action.
Origin: Ischial tuberosity (long) and medial linea aspera (short)
Insertion: lateral femoral condyle and head of fibula
Due to triangle configuration, externally rotates the leg, flexes knee, and extends hip.
Origin and insertion of semimembranosus/tendinosus. Which is more superficial?
Origin: ischial tuberosity
Insertion: medial proximal tibia
Semitendinosus is more superficial.
