9.2 Cells Flashcards
Simple diffusion
The process of letting small uncharged molecules across a cell membrane.
Facilitated diffusion
The process of letting molecules across the membrane through a protein.
Osmosis
Diffusion of water across a semipermeable membrane to dilute high solute concentration
Hypertonic
higher % solute, lower % water
Hypotonic
lower % solute, higher % water
Isotonic
equal parts solute
Active Transport
Diffusion but ATP or energy if required for it to happen.
Endocytosis
Exocytosis
Properties and structure of phospholipids
pieces of the cell membrane that will form the lipid bilayer
Parts of the cell membrane (identify different molecules and what they do)
Phospholipid - pieces of the cell membrane that will form the lipid bilayer
Proteins - 6 different kinds
Carbohydrates - includes glycolipids and glycoproteins, key for cell recognition
