3.3 Flashcards
Autotroph
an organism that can produce its own food using light, water, carbon dioxide, or other chemicals
Heterotroph
An organism derives nutritional requirements from complex organic substances.
Herbivore
Primary consumers, plant based diet.
Omnivore
Primary and a level higher, both plant and meat consumers.
Carnivore
Secondary consumers and higher, diet is meats.
Detritivore
Animals which feed on dead organic materials.
Keystone species
Influential species
exert important regulatory effects on other species
Increase diversity in habitats
Trophic cascade
The environmental affects when removing the apex predator.
Describe differences between food web and trophic cascade diagrams
A food web has the primary consumers and shows the sequence in which prey is consumed. A trophic cascade is removing the predator the the scenario and seeing the environmental affects.
