9/25/23 Lecture Flashcards
Xrays are ideal for
bones
What is the name of the coloration we use to color the blood
Diff quik. Helps with blood count, see morphology, see bacteria in blood, abnormalities, etc.
If you want to see soft tissue what equipment will you use
Ultrasound
T or F: Ultrasound can be portable
True
How does an ultrasound work
Probe sends i frequency sound and when it hits something it bounces back and the probe will catch the sound wave rebound and transmit to computer, which will give a 2d image.
T or F: Ultrasound can be used to scan for tendonitis
True
T or F: Ultrasound can be used to detect abnormal liver, spleen, kidneys, and masses
True
T or F: Ultrasound guided cytology can be used to guide where the needle enters into the mass
True
How do masses and stones differentiate when ultrasounding
Waves pass through masses, there is a cone shape underneath stones. Stones move when abdomen is shaken/palpated.
T or F: an ultrasound cannot be used to see the heart
False
Why does a C-T scan require a special room
Is alike to an xray- need protection
T or F: A C-T scan does not allow you to see soft tissue, only bone
False. C-T scan allows you to see both soft tissue and bone, including blood, which shows up white
If you suspect bone cancer, should you use a C-T Scan or an MRI
MRI because you can see the inside of bone more clearly
For an MRI, why should you take images from T1 AND T2?
Because different tumors will show up better/worse in each image, so it’s best to get both
What is Caudal Occipital Malformation
Disease that abnormalizes the tip of the skull, putting pressure on the cerebellum. Makes the CSF fluid flow abnormally and accumulate.
