8 - Fire Protection Flashcards
What happens when Engine Fire Switch is pulled out? (6)
- closes engine and spar fuel valves
- closes engine bleed air valve
- trips off generator
- shuts off hydraulic fluid to engine-driven pump
- depressurizes engine-driven hydraulic pump
- arms fire extinguishers
How long does the Engine Fire Warning Lights illuminate?
as long as an engine fire is detected
How can you verify a fire bottle has been discharged?
Bottle Discharged (BTL DISCH) Light and
EICAS Advisory Message
> BTL LO (L/R) ENG (A/B)
BOTTLE LOW APU
CGO BTL DISCH
What happens when you pull the APU Fire Switch? (6)
- arms fire extinguisher bottle
- closes fuel valve
- closes bleed air valve
- closes air inlet door
- trips generator fields and generator breakers
- shuts down APU (if automatic shutdown does not occur)
Engine and APU Fire Switches are mechanically locked and unlock for a fire warning. How can Fire Switches be pulled if locked?
switches can be individually unlocked by pushing the FIRE OVERRIDE SWITCH beneath each Fire switch
Engine Fire switches are unlocked when the respective Fuel Control switches are in CUTOFF
Is there any automatic fire protection on the B744?
APU automatically shuts down for a detected fire
On the ground, the APU extinguisher automatically discharges
What happens when CARGO FIRE ARM Switch - MAIN is pushed? (6)
• enables main deck fire suppression (depressurization)
• turns off two packs
• configures equipment cooling to ‘closed loop’ and
• turns off all airflow to main deck and airflow and heat into lower cargo compartments
• closes master trim air valve
* satcom shuts down to prevent overheating
What happens when CARGO FIRE ARM Switch - FWD or AFT is pushed? (6)
• turns off two packs
• arms lower cargo compartment fire extinguishers
• configures equipment cooling to ‘override mode’
• turns off all airflow and heat into lower cargo compartments
• closes master trim air valve
* SATCOM will shut down to prevent overheating
What does CARGO FIRE DEPRESS/DISCH Switch do when pressed?
MAIN - ARMED:
FWD or AFT - ARMED:
initiates controlled depressurization
initiates extinguisher discharge sequence (2 immediately, 4 after a brief delay or upon touchdown)
FWD/AFT Cargo has ____ minutes effective fire extinguishing agent?
334 min
