6.3 Summary Flashcards
Quantitative Research Designs
- Descriptive Non-experimental
- Quasi-Experimental
- Experimental
Classifying Quantitative Research Designs
- Is there an intervention?
If yes, the research design is either quasi-experimental or experimental
- Education, Treatment, Support
If no, the experiment is descriptive non-experimental
- Observational, Exploratory, Survey, Case-Control, Cohort, Correlational
Classifying Experimental vs Quasi-Experimental
Is it a randomized control trial? (Gold Standard)
Yes - Experimental (Random sample, control group, intervention)
No - Descriptive Non-Experimental (no intervention) or Quasi-Experimental (no control group or randomization)
Terms
Cross Sectional - Data was collected at ONE point in time
Longitudinal - Data was collected over a LONG period of time
Convenience Sampling - Sample was readily available to the researcher (hint that sample does not have random sample which means it will be Non-Experimental or Quasi-Experimental)
Questions for Classifying
- Was there an intervention
- Is there a control group
- Was the sample random
