Q

Reading/Critical Reading/Critical Appraisal

Q

Hudson-Barr Criteria Steps

A

RESEARCH QUESTION DICTATES THE RESEARCH METHOD USED

What are the conclusions of the study
- Read the title, abstract and discussion

Read the beginning of the article
- Introduction
(What is the problem)
(What are broader areas that have been studied)
(Previous work completed in this area, what have others done)
(Why this study needs to be done)

Findings and Results

  • Does the findings make sense
  • What type of information was used (demographics, simple statistics, more complex analyses)

Methods

  • How did the researcher view the question
  • Were the proper subjects and variables used

Clinical Judgement
- Was the study worth doing
- Is it useful for practice
(What can you do with the information, is it useful, is there any risk to changing the practice, what other questions do you have)
