11.1 Mixed Methods and Meta-Synthesis Flashcards
1
Q
Mixed Methods
A
- Using both qualitative and quantitative methods in one study
- Decision to use this is based on the research question.
2
Q
Limitations of Mixed Methods
A
- Not used very often
- Lack of clear justification of rationale for using mixed methods and lack of research paradigm identification. This may be contributed to undermining the rigors of this type of study.
- Strengths include the extent of data integration in narrative summaries.
- To address shortcomings more emphasis on nursing education on how to use mixed methods are increasing the use of advanced data integration methods
3
Q
Consumers of Research
A
- When considering mixed-methods we should know that this method is still in development and evolving
4
Q
Metasynthesis
A
- Synthesizes the results of multiple qualitative studies, which increases the strength of evidence.
- Blending of critical masses of qualitative data (interpretive synthesis of data)
- Provides a description/explanation of very specific target event or experience instead of a summary view of unrelated events.
