6.3 Cell Transport Flashcards
Importance of surface area: volume ratio
Ensures that the exchange of resources and waste occurs quickly enough for the cell to survive
Simple diffusion
Moves small, nonpolar molecules from high to low concentration without using energy or a transport protein
Facilitated diffusion
Moves large, polar molecules from high to low help using a transport protein but does not use energy
Active transport
Moves small molecules from low to high concentration using energy which changes the shape of the protein pump which moves the molecule through the concentration gradient
Endocytosis and Exocytosis
-Endocytosis- uses vesicles to take in large molecules at the cell membrane
-Exocytosis- vesicle lipid bilayer fuses with cell membrane which releases large molecules
Osmosis
