6.1 cells Flashcards
What is the difference between prokaryotes and eukaryotes?
Prokaryotes have no nucleus while eukaryotes have a nucleus.
how does the structure of bacteria compare to the structure of animal and plants cells?
The structure of bacteria has no nucleus, mitochondria, or organelles made of membranes.
What are the components of the cell membrane?
Lipids, proteins, and carbohydrates.
What role do proteins have in the cell membrane?
Transferring things in and out of the cell membrane.
What role do lipids have in the cell membrane?
Giving the cell structure.
What role do carbohydrates have in the cell membrane?
Provides protection for cells and helps cells recognize each other.
What are benefits of prokaryotic cells?
Easily identifiable, different shapes for different functions
What are benefits of eukaryotic cells?
Very organized, can perform things that prokaryotes cannot.
How are animal cells a container vs plant cells?
Animal cells have a cell membrane, and plant cells have a cell membrane and cell wall
