- Nature of the threat To the community posed by pursued subject
- ROAD CONDITIONS
- FAMILIARITY OF OFFICER TO AREA
- SPEEDS INVOLVED
- QUALITY OF RADIO COMMUNICATIONS
- Age, mental capacity, driving ability of violator, if known
PURSUITS OF WHAT PERSONS ARE JUSTIFIED?
Having committed or is committing a forcible felony
PURSUITS MAY BE INITIATED TO APPREHEND PERSONS COMMITTING TRAFFIC OFFENSES WHEN?
Violator is engaging in reckless driving, creating immediate threat to public, prior to initiating the pursuit

Can pursuit be initiated for suicidal subject?
Yes if person is either armed or has otherwise credibly threatened to harm himself or others
THE DESIRABILITY OF CONTINUING A PURSUIT IN WHICH THE FLEEING VEHICLE REFUSES TO STOP WILL BE CONTINUOUSLY MONITORED BY WHO?

Blocking a suspect’s vehicle is only justified when authorized by who?
A Commanding Officer, or a supervisor assigned to Homeland Security Division who has authorized for a particular operation or incident

No

YES, sirens and lights will be used throughout the pursuit
WHO CAN AUTHORIZE ROAD BLOCKS?
No one. Roadblocks are prohibited
When pursuit is to be terminated, the pursuing officer shall do what?
- Slow to the posted speed limit
- Turn off all emergency equipment
- Notify HQ
- Alter direction of travel or safely stop vehicle until suspect vehicle is out of sight
- Officer shall not follow the vehicle
