Histology: Hepatobiliary System Flashcards
Hepatic Lobule
Hexagonal part of a liver surrounded by the portal triad with the central vein in the center
Hepatic Acinus
Part of a lobule that includes Zones 1, 2 and 3
What is Zone 3 closest to?
Central Vein
What is Zone 1 closest to?
The portal triad
How can you tell the portal vein from the hepatic artery?
The portal vein is larger and the hepatic artery has a thick layer of smooth muscle
How can you identify the bile duct?
It will be surrounded with cuboidal epithelial cells?
Sinusoids
Vascular spaces that are lined with fenestrated epithelium that allows blood free access to hepatocytes
What allows for the anastamoses of the blood in the liver?
Cords
Kupffer Cells
Found in the sinusoids and they police the blood by engulfing pathogens - macrophages of the liver
Space of Disse
Contains connective tissue and reticulin fibers that hold the hepatocytes together as well as stellate cells which store vitamin A
What kind of blood is found in the sinusoids?
Mixed venous and arterial blood
Where does the central vein empty?
Hepatic vein
What are the layers of gall bladder?
Mucosa
Serosa/Adventitia
The gallbladder does not have a muscularis mucosa or submucosa.
