A
- fully alert
- lethargic

A
- lights are on, nobody’s home
- not much purpose toward action (at most, they might reach for something)
- just because they’re not all there, it doesn’t mean they don’t pick things up

A
- doesn’t follow commands
- no physiological meanginful responses
- have sleep wake cycles

What is a persistent vegetative state?
A
same as vegetative, but have been there for a period of time

what time frame is a TBI considered a persistent vegetative state?
A
1 year (generally, parts of the brain aren’t damaged)

what time frame is an anoxic brain injury considered a persistent vegetative state?
A
3 months

Why are anoxic brain injuries considered persistent vegetative with less time?
A
damage to every cell

What do we do for TBI pts in PT?
A
- make them move
- put them in positions where they’ll have to do something
- depends on where the injury is and what was affected

What does putting TBI pts into positions do that simple commands won’t?
A
may cause them to do a desired action
