4.2 Diffusion Flashcards
1
Q
Diffusion:
A
-The net movement of molecules/ions
-from a region where they are more highly concentrated to one where their concentration is lower
-until they are evenly distributed
2
Q
What is the movement of the molecules like in simple diffusion?
A
-particles are constantly in motion due to KE
-motion is random, no set pattern
-constantly bouncing off one another as well as off objects
3
Q
What type of proteins are involved in facilitated diffusion?
A
- channel proteins
- carrier proteins
4
Q
facilitated diffusion (carrier proteins)
A
- carrier proteins are specific to the molecule
- the molecule binds to the receptor and causes a confirmational change which moves the molecule through
- once the molecule is passed through the carrier protein reverts to its original shape
