4.2 Flashcards
Nitrogen Fixation
Nitrogen is rude to ammonium/ ammonia
Nitrification
Reduced nitrogen compounds are oxidized to nitrite and nitrates
Denitrification
Loss of nitrogen compounds specifically the reduction of nitrates/nitrites by bacteria in soil that returns nitrogen to atmosphere and completes cycle
Inputs of photosynthesis
Sunlight, water, and carbon
Outputs of photosynthesis
Oxygen and glucose
Inputs of cellular resp.
Oxygen and glucose
Outputs of cellular respiration.
Energy, water, and co2
What organisms perform photosynthesis?
Plants and algae
What organisms perform cellular respiration?
All living things
What are some differences between the flow of energy and the flow of carbon?
-Energy is one way
-Energy is lost as it goes up the food chain
-Carbon is cycled
-Carbon is reused by different organisms
How will BTB will change color in a test tube depending on the condition?
It turns yellow after being placed in the light because of photosynthesis since there is now an energy source. It turns green in the dark because there is no light source.
How will BTB will change color in a test tube depending on the contents?
It will change color when there is a plant because the plant will be able to perform photosynthesis. The carbon will get cycled and the color of the water will get lighter.
