- they the begin to question the unjustness of certain acts

A
- minorities take personal sacrifices to show their dedication
- they take risks to emphasise how strongly they feel a bout certain situation

What is social cryptomnesia
A
- when people in society have a memory of change but don’t know how it happened
- not everyone is aware of the events above that have caused the many changes in out society today

What did Asch find about social change
A
- the power of dissent: when one confederate dissented, conformity dropped. shows that the power of the majority can be broken by the minority which is what could lead to social change
Eg: environmental and health campaigners often exploit normative social influence by including information about what other people are doing

A
- it demonstrated the importance of a disobedient role model in the variation where a confederate teacher refuses to shock the learner and obedience of the genuine ppts plummeted
- was suggested how obedient can be used to create social change via gradual commitment

- hung signs on houses to encourage reduction n energy consumption
- messages hung on doors highlighted how most residents were trying to reduce their consumption
- as a control, some had a general message saving energy but without reference to others

- supports the social change theory
