Define the economy
The financial state of a country
Talk about studying memory and its impact on the economy (EWT and CI)
• How does EWT research have implications for the economy?
○ Improving EWT —> more accurate EWT —> money saved on police resources —> they’re looking for the right people
• What about CI development?
○ If CI more effective than standard police interview —> money saved by doing more effective interviews
Talk about how studying social influence impacts the economy
SOCIAL INFLUENCE:
• How does understanding minority influence have implications for the economy?
○ Minorities = change that benefit economy
§ People make changes that save money
□ Eg recycling saves money, no need to buy new resources
Talk about how studying psychopathology impacts the economy (3 points, mental illness treatments, treatments overall, drug treatments and CBT
PSYCHOPATHOLOGY:
• If some mental illness treatments are found to be more effective than other treatments:
○ Treatment more effective —> money saved by NHS, not buying ineffective treatment —> person treated quicker —> saves money on further treatment
• Why is it beneficial to economy if treatments are effective and people can return to work?
○ They contribute to economy (pay taxes, national health)
§ If they are unable to work, they claim from government
• If drug treatment effectiveness = CBT effectiveness, why is CBT used?
○ Drug = short term fix
○ CBT = long term fix
○ Treatment = long term effect, no need for further drug treatments
What is CBT?
A form of therapy

ATTACHMENT:
• Bowlby thinks children need mothers to stay at home. What effect does this have on the economy?
○ They don’t contribute to taxes
• Later research says children = generally fine with a good substitute carer. What does this mean for economy?
○ Mothers can work —> pay taxes —> aids businesses by having a workforce
• How does research into harmful effects of deprivation/privation affect economy?
○ Children with good attachment —> productive members of society
§ Opposite for ones with deprivation/privation
○ Cost more for govt to care for children that are lackin

○ Saving money for businesses by having machines doing jobs to save money
