Open systems

A

are able to INTERACT with other systems in order to share information.

  • has infinite scope
  • flexible + abstract
  • exchange info with each other
  • interacting with environment constantly

E.g - use one system’s login in to access another system (E.g using sign up with google to login to tiktok)

E.g - a shopping website launching a card provider system like mastercard or visa to verify it is you and the information is secure

Open system advantages

A

People from outside of the organisation can access it - customers

It helps business managers focus on external factors to predict and respond to potential problems

The organisation make use of other services, this saves them time and costs

It encourage communication between organisation and their customers/suppliers which leads to better interaction

Less secure: more vulnerable to security risks/cyber attacks.

A

Doesn’t react with the environment - it is ‘isolated.’

Closed system advantages

A

MORE SECURE: Hackers them cannot have unauthorised access from the outside. It prevents leakage of information to competitors.

Organisation has full control - they can decide exactly what will then be in that system

They have to rely on their own systems, which can be more time consuming to develop and expensive.

There’s little flexibility: its not easy to change the structure with changing needs
