3.1.1.3 Anaerobic and aerobic exercise Flashcards
Aerobic respiration is
When oxygen and glucose are used to produce energy, water, and carbon dioxide
Anaerobic respiration is
Glucose is used without the presence of oxygen to produce energy and lactic acid
Aerobic respiration occurs
When our bodies are at rest, low-intensity exercise for longer periods of time
Anaerobic respiration occurs
When it is very high-intensity exercise or only last for a few seconds
EPOC
excess post-exercise oxygen consumption(oxygen debt)
EPOC is
When a person continues breathing deeply after anaerobic exercise to repay the oxygen
3 ways of recovery after vigorous exercise
Cool down
Refuelling
Ice baths/massages
Cool downs include
Maintain elevated HR and bretahing rate, stretch to remove lactate
Refuelling
Rehydration, carbs for glucose
Ice bath/massage
Removes lactic acid by inducing blood flow to an area. Reduces DOMS
