What is business culture?
The shared values, beliefs and behaviours within a business that shape the workforce
Give 2 reasons why culture is important to a business…
- helps to create an identity
- helps with decision making as any big decisions need to align with your culture
- improves performance as a positive culture encourages production
- helps attract certain target customers
- can provide more competitive advantage by being adaptable and flexible
- may encourage engagement/motivation from employees
What is a Dynamic Market?
A rapid/constant changing market
What is meant by a bureaucratic organisation?
a formal organisation which is restrictive with lots of rules and regulations
may be necessary for a business with big risk but otherwise the rules are unnecessary
what is meant by an entrepreneurial organisation?
Innovative, creative and receptive to new ideas and is more likely to take risks with less rules and regulations

A diagram to show how all the features can form an organisations culture
What do ‘symbols’ mean in the cultural web?
the visual features of a business e.g.) logos, pictures and uniforms
What is meant by ‘power structures’ in the cultural web?
where the power lies - autocratic or democratic
What are the ‘organisational structures’ in the cultural web?
what type of hierarchy is in place e.g.) tall, flat, how functional areas are set up
What is meant by ‘control systems’ from the cultural web?
how staff are controlled e.g.) performance pay?
What are the ‘rituals and routines’ in the cultural web?
expected norms in the business e.g.) staff parties, certain people who are always late/early
What is ‘stories’ in the cultural web?
things that get repeated whether they are true or not
