Network Cabling Standards
Guidelines used globally to ensure consistent network installations, including the ISO/IEC 11801 and TIA 568 standards.
TIA 568 Standard
A U.S. standard known as the Commercial Building Telecommunications Cabling Standard, providing specifications for ethernet pin and pair assignments.
T568A and T568B
Two wiring schemes within the TIA 568 standard for ethernet connections, determining the color order of wires in an 8P8C connector (RJ45).
568A vs. 568B Color Schemes
In 568A, pins 1 and 2 use white/green and green, while in 568B, they use white/orange and orange. Pins 4, 5, 7, and 8 are the same in both standards.
Ethernet Crossover Cable
A type of cable using different wiring schemes on each end; often mistakenly thought to involve T568A and T568B, but actually governed by IEEE standards.
Punch Down Block
A device used to connect ethernet cables; it often shows both 568A and 568B color schemes for proper wire placement during installation.
