30. Hepeviridae, Hepadnaviridae, Genus Deltavirus, Nodaviridae, Unclassified Flashcards

Q
A
2
Q
MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY HEPEVIRIDAE (2 genera)
A
- Genus Orthohepevirus with four separate species (Orthohepeviruses A-D) that include the so-called “hepatitis E-like viruses”—reflecting the sequential designation of human viral hepatitis—from mammals and birds
- Genus Piscihepevirus with a single virus species from fish: Piscihepevirus A, which is more commonly known by its historic name of cutthroat trout virus.
3
Q
MEMBERS OF THE GENUS ORTHOHEPEVIRUS (FAM. HEPEVIRIDAE) (4 species)
A
- Orthohepevirus A (the type species of hepatitis E virus), including hepeviruses from humans, domestic and wild pigs, deer, mongoose, rabbits, and camels;
- Orthohepevirus B, which includes the avian hepeviruses;
- Orthohepevirus C, which includes strains of hepevirus from rats, Asian musk shrews, ferrets, and mink;
- Orthohepevirus D, which includes hepeviruses from bats.
4
Q
MEMBERS OF THE GENUS HEPACIVIRUS
A
Nonprimate hepaciviruses (contains hepatitis C virus, an important cause of human hepatitis) / Horses, dogs, etc. / Uncertain Hepatitis possibly in horses. Persistent infection / Apparently worldwide
5
Q
MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY HEPADNAVIRIDAE - hepatitis DNA viruses -(2 genera)
A
-
Genus Orthohepadnavirus includes:
- human hepatitis B
- a number of genotypes of related primate hepatitis B virus that infect great apes and woolly monkeys, as well as
- several viruses that infect members of the squirrel family: woodchuck hepatitis virus, which infects woodchucks (Marmata monax) and chipmunks (family Sciuridae), and
- ground squirrel hepatitis virus, which infects ground squirrels (Spermophilus beecheyi, richardsonii and S. parryi).
- Bats also can be infected with a hepadnavirus.
-
Genus Avihepadnavirus include:
- duck hepatitis B virus, ducks and geese;
- a number of similar viruses occur in other species of birds, including storks, herons, and cranes.
6
Q
MEMBERS OF THE FLOATING GENUS DELTAVIRUS (1 species)
A
Hepatitis D virus, also called hepatitis delta virus, is a small, replication-defective RNA virus.
The virus requires the simultaneous presence of hepatitis B virus for its replication and assembly in natural infections.
