What are themes?
Themes describe those aspects of project management that must be addressed throughout the project.
What are the Prince2 themes?
There are 7 Prince2 Themes:
- Business Case
- Organization
- Quality
- Plans
- Risk
- Change
- Progress
Which Theme asks the following questions?
- Why are we doing the project?
- What are the main reasons?
- What are the benefits for the company?
The business case theme, as it documents the business reasons for doing the project and checks if there is a valid business case.
What is the Business Case theme?
The business case theme asks:
- Why are we doing the project?
- What are the main reasons?
- What are the benefits for the company?
Which theme deals with Roles and Responsibilities, the project team structure and accountability?
This is the Organization Theme.
What is the organisation theme?
The organisation theme asks:
- Who is involved?
- What are their responsibilities?
Which theme deals with making sure the product is fit for its intended use at the end of the project?
This is the Quality Theme.
What is the quality theme?
The quality theme asks:
- What are the quality requirements?
- How will they be judged?
Which Theme deals with product based planning?
This is the Plans Theme.
What is the plans theme?
The plans theme answers the questions
- What are the products
- How will they be developed
- When will they be developed
- How much will it cost?
What is the risk theme?
The risk theme deals with what may or may not happen that may affect the project’s objectives. And answers questions such as:
- What are the risks?
- What if the risk happens?
- How to document the risk?
- How to identify and manage the risk?
What Theme deals with project issues and new requirements?
This is the Change Theme, and for each project issue or change request it asks:
- “What is the impact of this change or issue on the project?”
- “How will it be dealt with?”
What is the Change theme?
The change theme deals with project issues - what impacts they have, and how they’ll be dealt with.
Which Theme asks how the project is going?
This is the Progress Theme.
What is the progress theme?
The progress deals with the questions,
- Where are we now?
- Where will be be?
- Should we carry on?
