2.9 Photosynthesis Flashcards
Photosynthesis
Energy conversion
Light energy is concerted to chemical energy that is stored in carbon compounds (glucose)
Equations of Photosynthesis
6CO2 + 6H20 -> C6H12O6 + 6O2
What do organisms require to build cells and carry out life processes?
complex carbon compounds
idk what this question is
What kind of light do plants use in photosynthesis?
visible light (light that humans can see)
What wavelength range is visible light?
Between 400 and 700 nm.
Violet is the shortest and red is the longest
What is chlorophyll?
A green pigment inside chloroplasts that reflects green light and absorbs all others.
What colors of light does chlorophyll absorb best?
blue and red
Photolysis
How oxygen is produced by water.
Is oxygen a waste product or a beneficial product (to the plant)
a waste product. It is expelled, and they want the electrons that are generated from photolysis, not the oxygen.
Photolysis equation
2H20 -> 4e- + 4H+ + O2
What caused iron ores and glaciers to appear?
The Great Oxidation Event, 2,200 mya, O2 levels reaching 2%
Is photosyntehsis endothermic or exothermic
endothermic
What reactions need energy?
reactions that make O2 and reactions that make large molecules
Where does the energy come from that supplies photosynthesis with energy?
The sunlight that chlorophyll absorbs.
